The Merry Maple Tree Lighting will be held today, Dec. 1 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The tree lighting ceremony is a more than 40-year tradition in Amherst. The events include:
An open house at the Fire Station at 3 p.m.
Muddy Brook Farm offers horse-drawn carriage rides around the common. Atkins Farms Country Market will offer apple cider and donuts for sale.
The Amherst Regional Middle School chorus, led by David Ranen, performs at 4 p.m. on the steps of Town Hall with the lighting of the tree at 5 p.m.
The UMass marching band will arrive shortly after the tree lighting, according to a press release from the Amherst Business Improvement District, which co-sponsors the celebration along with the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce and TD Bank. The BID also provided money for the new LED lights that will illuminate the tree.
