ARPS to Consider Changing School Start Times

At their meeting last week, the School Committees endorsed entering into an intensive, two-month community engagement process regarding the possibility of permanently moving to a later start time for the secondary schools (the possibility of having a later start time was studied extensively by the district several years ago). This decision was based largely on the feedback the District has received from families noting the positive impact the 9:00 a.m. start has had on their middle and high school students’ wellness during remote learning.  The engagement process will be used to inform the District about the feasibility and advisability of making a permanent change to the secondary start time, which would also impact the start time at the elementary schools.  In the coming weeks, please watch for notices about forums and surveys on the topic of later start times and take time to share your thoughts and opinions.
