The month of April is Autism Awareness Month and serves as a time to acknowledge and honor the neurodiversity in our schools and communities.  Some organizations, including the Autism Society, have renamed the month Autism Acceptance Month in order to shift the emphasis from simple awareness to one of inclusion and belonging for those with autism. Our goal is to celebrate neurodiversity within the ARPS community and honor autistic individuals, just as they are, by accommodating their needs and ensuring welcoming, inclusive and equitable experiences everyday.

I am pleased to share that Amherst Regional Middle School and Amherst Regional High School will be welcoming Earl Miller, Director of Amherst’s new Community Responders for Equity, Safety and Service Department (CRESS) for visits to work with students and staff.  Mr. Miller, who was appointed to the position by the Amherst Town Council last month, will be working with the District as part of the Healthy Communities Initiative and was introduced to the ARHS student body at assemblies earlier this week.  We are excited to welcome Mr. Miller, both to our community and into our schools.
