The district is asking all parents/guardians to take a moment this week to complete the 2024 Parent Survey. This quick, 8-question survey is completely anonymous and will enable the district to learn from your perspective.

ARHS is having their fall open house on Thursday, October 10th. Teachers will open their doors at 6:25pm. Your students will be sending you their ARHS schedule via email early this week. Make sure to ask them for it! (Note, you can also ask for a copy in the main office between 6:00 and 6:25pm).
Note: Parents/guardians can get PowerSchool user names/passwords at the main office from 6 to 8pm (official ID required).
Schedule for classroom visits: A Period [6:30 – 6:40] B Period [6:45 – 6:55] C Period [7:00 – 7:10] D Period [7:15 – 7:25] *Open Period [7:30 – 8:00]
(*) Use the optional “open period” to meet second semester teachers, quarter-long elective teachers, liaisons, service providers, club advisors, librarian, and homeroom teachers.
Dr. Xi will be hosting two different ways to meet and connect: Sit-N-Sips (In person coffee and chat at school during morning drop off) and Listening Lounges (online via Google Meet from 4:30-5:30pm). Both formats provide parents/guardians the opportunity to listen, share concerns, or ask questions of the Superintendent.
The dates for the Listening Lounges and Sit-N-Sip events are as follows:

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association announces the 24th Annual Sportsmanship Essay/Multimedia Contest. The theme of this year’s contest is “Sportsmanship Beyond the Game: High School Athletes as Positive Role Models. All entries must be received by the deadline: 12:00 pm on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
As a high school athlete, you are a role model for younger athletes who look up to you. Why is it important to display good sportsmanship to younger athletes? Provide three examples of how you personally demonstrate good sportsmanship on and off the field.
GUIDELINES
PARTICIPANTS: Contest is open to students in grades 9-12 at MIAA Member Schools.
ESSAY ENTRIES: Must be typed, double spaced, and contain no more than 500 words. All entries, essay and multimedia, must be emailed to dharrington@miaa.net.
MULTIMEDIA ENTRIES: Must be submitted as a public service announcement of 30 or 60 seconds in duration.
CONTEST JUDGING: The contest will be judged by members of the MIAA Sportsmanship Committee using the rubric at this link.
Enter your essay for a chance to win! First Place ($400) and Runner-Up ($200) prizes will be presented in two categories (essay and multimedia). Visit here for more details.

Calling all ARHS Students! Greenfield High School and the Greenfield Public Library invite you to submit ideas for presentations, workshops, and/or activities for their 4th Annual Comic Con scheduled for Oct 30. Visit Ms. Stocker in the library if interested.
Beginning October 1st, and for each week through the month of October, Amherst Cinema spotlights films written by, directed by, or starring a graduate from the region’s five colleges. The series, FIVE on FILM, pays tribute to the artistic talents that have been cultivated, educated, and perhaps even inspired by the five colleges area. From comedies to serious drama to Bruce Willis in outer space, FIVE on FILM was co-curated for your viewing pleasure and in partnership with Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and University of Massachusetts Amherst, with the support of Five Colleges, Inc. and Greenfield Savings Bank.
A team of health researchers are looking for parents and teenagers (ages 13-19) to participate together in a study on life experiences and health, involving an interview, surveys, and health measurements.
Family members will be compensated up to $60 each for participating.
Participation is completely voluntary and all information collected is confidential.

Amherst Cinema presents FIVE ON FILM. A month-long artistic celebration of films made by or starring graduates of the region’s Five Colleges
Beginning October 1st, and for each week through the month of October, Amherst Cinema spotlights films written by, directed by, or starring a graduate from the region’s five colleges.
Tickets are available online and at the Box Office. For more info, go here. Tip: Guests sporting college apparel (from ANY institution of higher learning) will receive the “School Spirit” discount on tickets purchased at the Box Office.
